Deer Park- Sarnath first sermon place of India and Varanasi
In ancient times, Sarnath was referred as ‘Mrigadava’ meaning ‘Deer Park’ and ‘Isipatana’ indicating the place where holy men fell to earth. The origin of the name Deer Park can be traced back to an occasion in one of Shakyamuni’s former lives as a Bodhisattva. Deer Park, another name is Isipatana. This is the famous Hindu pilgrimage center of Varanasi. The site where Lord Buddha had delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Sarnath is placed to some of the most comprehensive ruins amongst sacred Buddhist sites. The Deer Park or Isipatana Sarnath is the most important place among the Gardens in Sarnath. And the park is a large enclosure made for the deer to roam around freely. This place also has an array of birdlife. It is a heavenly place for those solicit solitude and peace away from their busy lives. The atmosphere is sober and relaxing.
