History of Banaras
Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in the world and this city belongs to Hindu Gods Shiv. According to Hindu Mythology, Banaras was created by Hindu God Shiv. There was a war between Lord Shiv and Lord Brahma centuries ago. During this battle, Lord Shiv tore one of the five heads of Lord Brahma. As per custom, the conqueror took his enemy’s head in his hand and went to his home. By doing this, the winners indicate their bravery to everyone. Lord Shiv disrespected Lord Brahma’s head in many ways and kept it with him at all times. Once Lord Shiv had come to Kashi and Lord Brahma’s head which was hanging in the hand of Shiv suddenly fell on the ground. He disappeared as soon as the head fell on the ground and for this reason, Kashi is considered a very holy place.
In ancient times, it is said that the Pandava brothers, the heroes of the world famous Mahabharata in India, visited the city of Kashi in search of Lord Shiva for their atonement. It is believed that the Pandavas were so distracted by the slaughter in the war that they considered this war a sin of their lives and set out to atone for that sin. There are only seven places in the world where people can get salvation, including Kashi. The seven places are Kashi, Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar, Dwarka, Kanchi, and Avanti. All these places are also considered very holy places and salvation sites.
